After about 20 years in radio full-time, I’ve been working as a director of video productions for a manufacturing company in Kansas City for the last few years. I have clients I do imaging for as a freelancer on a consistent basis as well as working with my “home station,” KZPT-FM 997 the Point in Kansas City, where I’m also on-air as a weekend/fill-in jock.
I’d also like to mention how much I love this “Iron Imager” contest. I’d like to thank Benztown for making it happen. I’d like to thank Dan Kelly and the other champs for being involved and bringing a large amount of credibility to this event. The trip to LA and the chance to share the stage with Dan, catch some hang time with the Benztown Team is a prize in itself! If this brings me new opportunities, that’s just icing on the cake. This experience has easily been one of the most exciting things that has happened to me in my radio career.
I love you, radio.
Love, Brady

PS: I’m on twitter, @bradygoodman, and I’m always open to new opportunities

Tom Ferguson

Today I am really thrilled to do an Interview with Tom Ferguson. He is a Brit, but works in the UAE and images Channel 4 as well as he is the PD for that station. Tom was a great talent a few years ago and developed to one of the best Imaging Guys out there. He sent me his soundlcoud and I was blown away and needed to reach out to him to get to know more of how he does it, what is his favorite PlugIns, what techniques does he use etc.. Learn more about Tom, check his audio and screen caps….ENTER IMAGING UAE. (more…)

Clique - Justin Case

Everybody loves to do CHR Imaging. Why? Big FX, big processing, crazy VO treatment, bad ass beats….
I love Justin’s approach in our CLIQUE library, as it is kind of fresh and very fast paced. The VO is Mikey Muscatello. Check also some of Justin’s screen caps….Enjoy! (Side Note Andy: Check Justin on Ryan’s Podcast) (more…)

Matt %22Blacko%22 Nikolic

This is Andy with some inspiration from back in the days… 2005 I visited the Pals down in OZ and toured stations in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Here is some stuff I found today while digging in my archives (I was looking for some stuff to play at a workshop). It was great to meet Rick Wade, Matt “Blacko” Nikolic, Sidey, KCB and David Konsky. Australia was an awesome experience, a one in a lifetime vacation and I am still inspired by the skill set and production quality the guys deliver every day. Today I want to highlight a guy who doesn’t like the spotlight too much, but to me Matt Nikolic is one of the Godfathers of modern CHR IMAGING… This is stuff from 2003!!! UNBELIEVABLE!

David Konsky 2Day

Guys, I am happy David sent some new pieces, he built for 2day in Sydney. Check his amazing song intros!  David used Antares  and one of my favourite vocoders: Razor.

“My PD was keen for me to build something with “musicality” – so I built some “sonic” integrated ID’s. Same key as original, just different notation mixed with some jingle bits and VO parts keyed aswell.  I used multiple plugins including Antares Harmony Engine, Razor and majority by the grid and using pitch shift.”

Intros for Zedd, Katy Perry and Flo Rida:

Jason Derulo intro in full, acapella and instrumental version

Thanks to David for sharing his work with us!

Here’s a little Lady Gaga Dub Step Insanity Concert Promo,  I did for Benz CHR  – too far? Let me know?

What do you think about the switch between tension intro and bad boy beats ?

Andy

Benztown’s latest CHR fomat is called CLIQUE  and done by my mate Paul Armstrong from London. Paul’s Alternative background makes this CHR library very different from Benztown CHR, (Andy: which I still do) and all other competitors out there. That difference is, what I personally prefer and hired Paul for, instead of having the NEXT CHR library. Personality in Imaging is key to me, as you can hear it as a massive difference on-air. If your station should sound unique, nasty and massive….this is your one stop shop. CLIQUE is your library!

Check Paul’s incredible work, voiced by Mikey Muscatello, get inspired and leave me comment. How do you like the alternative influences, VO processing etc, music editing…? What stations would this sound fit to ?

The battle of the Imaging Titans is coming, soon. Only 2 days to the final round of Benztown’s Iron Imager Contest – live at the Worldwide Radio Summit at the W Hotel, Hollywood.

I often promised you guys to get this guy on the blog one day and today is one of my luckiest blogging days ever, because I finally got him….I am talking about one of the biggest influencers of the CHR Imaging world – Matt Nikolic. A guy, who got named by Konsky, BT, Sidey, Jez and of course me and many others as well, when it came to the question : Who influenced you when you started your imaging career?

But let’s go back to 2005 when I met Matt in Melbourne and hung around with him for a few days @ the FOX. It was fanstastic to see Matt work and very inspiring.  He was like Oli and me working in the GRID mode and to be honest I haven’t met a lot of people before doing this. That’s why I felt home right away, when Matt opened his Pro Tools sessions and the blue Grid button was turned on. I also remember Matt showed me the best lunch place in Melbourne, which was owned by a greek couple and their sandwiches were fantastic. (I still remember that bro). The only advice I can give you, read the interview, check the screen caps and the WANGO TANGO promo (- one word : fantastic) and learn from one of the best or maybe the best CHR Imaging producer in the world. Like you know, I do the Benztown CHR library by myself and as a truly CHR Imaging guy, I am looking consequently to extend my beatmix techniques and standardize new ideas for a period of time to develop the brand of the stations I work for. What I really like these days is a kind of switching songs within one beatmixed song. “Check the word “beat”

Not a dramatic change to the song, but fun and easy to do, when you

1. have the opportunity to go through the songs you want to beatmix and…

2. work in the grid or any tempo synced mode. You can also sync the key, not just the tempo.

I am looking forward listening to your stuff to post it right here…just shoot me an email (blog@benztown.com)
