I love to layer voices, when doing Imaging to create surprises, cool effects on the Voice Over or just to work out a specific part of an Imaging piece a bit more. The plugIns i use the most for layering are :

1.
SansAMP (i reduce volume with the plugIn on the layered track already, saves me time in hyperdrwaing or cllipgaing)

2.
Digidesign Basic EQ.7 (low pass, high pass, mid boost – be creative have fun with it…)
and
3.
Cosmonaut Voice (in combo with a thin eq – lovely)

WHAT PlugIns do you use for layering? What are your favourites? let me know and have a nice weekend!

Today, I want to share some Screen Caps of my favourite Delays and for what purpose and how I use it! In general, I am a delay freak, I use it all the time and in almost any session: No matter, if I create a powerful jingle, musibed, promo, sweeper or else. The most important to me, when it comes to choose a delay is: It needs to fit my need and help me to achieve my goal fast. Often I use tempo related Delays – makes the Imaging flow and that is one of my philosophical fundamentals, when it comes to music related Imaging.

Check my favourite delays and see how they get used and abused….. (more…)

Like you know, I do the Benztown CHR library by myself and as a truly CHR Imaging guy, I am looking consequently to extend my beatmix techniques and standardize new ideas for a period of time to develop the brand of the stations I work for. What I really like these days is a kind of switching songs within one beatmixed song. “Check the word “beat”

Not a dramatic change to the song, but fun and easy to do, when you

1. have the opportunity to go through the songs you want to beatmix and…

2. work in the grid or any tempo synced mode. You can also sync the key, not just the tempo.

I am looking forward listening to your stuff to post it right here…just shoot me an email (blog@benztown.com)

More then 25 years in the Imaging business, multi award wininnng and inspring to an entire generation in Canada and beyond. Not many could tell that about their radio career, John could, but never would, so I do! I met John as the Head of Imaging for Astral Media, while discussing Benztown for some of their stations. Canada has always been great to us as a company and John’s Toronto station was our first international Benztown CHR client ever. After digging into Johns career, I got more and more impressed and wanted to have him badly for an intreview on the blog.  John has wisdom to share for younger imaging guys and producers and is absolutly one of the guys to listen to, if you want to make it in the Imaging world. Thanks for sharing, John and never stop creating magic. Check out the inspiring interview, John’s screencaps + explanations to each of them and the great audio pieces, he sent through. (more…)

There is so many people in this (radio) world telling you, they go talent and really want X. A better gig, more money, more clients, more responsibility more…. Let me introduce you to a guy, who really wanted it: Damon Oaks. If you are stucked in routines or if you are not confident with your work environment, take Damon’s inspiring interview as personal motivation to challenge yourself every day or to get your butt out of the comfort zone and make an impact to the imaging world.

I got to know Damon a few months ago. He is the imaging guy for WBMX in Boston and a great Voice Over talent as well. His client list is impressive and he even has some clients overseas. Check out the entire interview, the screen caps, Damon’s audio and learn how Damon got hired by Greg Strassel (today Head of Programming for CBS) to image one of the biggest markets in the US. Many stations are on the look for the most polished sound possible. BUT, some Imaging pieces need to sound dirty, rough and edgy. I created a Lollapalooza Promo for our CHR library and used a plugIN from the Sound Toy Family, I never used before and it made the VO unbelievable dirty and rough. Love that…You can emulate that kind of sound also with AMPs (like Sans Amp, AMP Farm or Guitar Rig), Hard Filters and EQs. Adding Flanging, LoFI or  SciFi to it makes it even more edgy.

As bonus, here’s the pic of my Decapitator Settings:
