Back in Cali since friday, just for a few days, but at least I am back. The weather is awesome, like always and the new studio for Shane is coming together really nice.

The Benztown crew will be at Conclave in Minneapolis from Tuesday till Friday. I am so looking forward seeing you guys there. We sponsor the baseball game on Wed and be around all Thursday and Friday. The VO panel we do is on Wednesday at 4pm. I bet it will be inspiring and an absolute go-to event as we present Jhani Kaye (PD of the legendary KEATRH 101), Atlanta-based female Voice Over Artist Rachel McGrath, the VO legend Pat Garret, Dennis Green (SVP/Affiliate Sales and Broadcast Operations, Cumulus) and Nate Zeiss (Agent, CESD Talent Agency). For all those can’t make it to Minneapolis, we will record the workshop and put it online here and on the brand new Benz voice over blog as well.

Unbelievable! The blog turns one today and I feel realy pumped about this fact. It started as a vision (“maybe it’ll become a real blog for imaging and production”) with this article and is today one of the most read, maybe the most read radio imaging blog in the world. More than 80 000 people have read the articles on this blog in one single year. Today we have more than 3000 people a week sharing ideas, reading the articles, watching the tutorials, checking the screen caps and listening to the stunning audio of the greatest production guys in the world. Thank you for making this blog  the hot spot for radio imaging. Thanks for all the inspiration and efforts.

AND there is tons of great content to come in the near future…. A massive Imaging contest with a jury of hand picked programing legends and radio pros, great interviews, new demos, tutorials and a fantastic X-mas present. For today I want to honor the guys who wrote the most successful posts ever (on this blog) and show the posts to you once again + revitalize our survey, making the blog even more specific and better for you by asking about your preferences considering our posts.

Please post your personal blog experience below as a comment or send me an email to blog@benztown.com. Can’t wait to hear your connects and stories!

Hi all,

first I wanna thank you for your massive interest in this. I am really excited in start doing this –  maybe even on a regular basis wit a special guest each time. For Friday: All places are taken, so sorry, but we had to limit this to guarantee and good Q&A part. For those who can’t make it, please don’t hesitate to send over your questions considering session setup and VO treatment (blog@benztown.com) and we will discuss during the webinar and post a few days later. I received really great material from our guests Mike and ? (the secret guy, you know this already) and I am really looking forward to share it with you.

Until then, here are a few great VO artists and the benztown VO treatment of them as audio and PlugIn Combo:

used PlugINs VOX: EQ 3 7-Band, Sci-Fi, MondoMod

used PlugINs Aux: EQ 3 7-Band, L2, T-Racks3 Prog EQ 1A, RVox, L2

Cousin:

used PlugINs Aux RCompressor, R EQ 6-Band, EQ 3 1-Band, D-Verb

Don:

Picking the right VO talent is always tough and absolutely subjective to each one of us, but crucial for your on-air branding and station imaging. The rigtht Voice can be key to success and great brand building. Voice Auditions can cause big discussions, but they are always fun to do for me. After years in the business I still love listening to the stars and the upcoming talents interpreting the Call Letters of our clients and then dicsuss back and forth which one sounds best for that spcific project or station and match the crucial criterias of every imaging guy (or at least you should think about those criterias before finally hiring a VO guy). Every one has his own rank here….mine is:

– availability and communcitaion

– audio quality

– turn around time

– flexibility

and at least budget!

A few weeks ago, I asked Rachel McGrath to write a post on the blog, because I really admire her work as a Producer and Voice Talent. I work with her on our CHR library since a few months and she really rocks! To be honest, she is one of the best female Voice Talents I ever worked with delivering in great quality and fun to work with. I recommend to check out her stuff. Beside that she is the Voice and Imaging director for CC Atlanta.

Me: “I work with men???? With big deep voices? I never noticed!”
