Matt %22Blacko%22 Nikolic

This is Andy with some inspiration from back in the days… 2005 I visited the Pals down in OZ and toured stations in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Here is some stuff I found today while digging in my archives (I was looking for some stuff to play at a workshop). It was great to meet Rick Wade, Matt “Blacko” Nikolic, Sidey, KCB and David Konsky. Australia was an awesome experience, a one in a lifetime vacation and I am still inspired by the skill set and production quality the guys deliver every day. Today I want to highlight a guy who doesn’t like the spotlight too much, but to me Matt Nikolic is one of the Godfathers of modern CHR IMAGING… This is stuff from 2003!!! UNBELIEVABLE!

David Konsky 2Day

Guys, I am happy David sent some new pieces, he built for 2day in Sydney. Check his amazing song intros!  David used Antares  and one of my favourite vocoders: Razor.

“My PD was keen for me to build something with “musicality” – so I built some “sonic” integrated ID’s. Same key as original, just different notation mixed with some jingle bits and VO parts keyed aswell.  I used multiple plugins including Antares Harmony Engine, Razor and majority by the grid and using pitch shift.”

Intros for Zedd, Katy Perry and Flo Rida:

Thanks to David for sharing his work with us!

Speakerphone Matt Ines 2

Remember Matt Innes? The Globe Trotter of Imaging. He is back in Oz since a few weeks and signed up at Nova. Check his recent work and how he uses  VO layering and panning, mostly done with speaker phone, his favourite plug-in at the moment…

“I’m playing around with Layering voices at the moment. Layering then panning and using different settings in speakerphone. Within speakerphone, im using the ‘radio tuning’ bit down the bottom…really gives the layered VO a nice higher or lower frequency sound.”

Thanks to Matt for sharing his work and production tip with us!

Australia seems like a radio imaging talent factory. Every other week I have the pleasure to see another producer from Australia inspiring me and my work. To me it comes down to one significant point: The big dudes like Konsky, Nikolic, Dower, BT, Sidey etc…  recognize talent and do their best to boost it and make the guys grow.

One amazing imaging producer, who used to work for 2DayFM and now is making noise at Nova is Dan Pearson. Check out his incredible work, learn from his screen caps and enjoy the interview. Cheers, Andy. (more…)

This is the story of one of Australia’s young talented imaging directors, who decided to leave radio (he used to work with David Konsky and Matt Nikolic at Austereo/Southern Cross) and make his dream come true:

Matt wanted to travel around the world with his girlfriend.

After 9 month of life changing experiences, Matt used his inspiration to get back in radio and landed a gig at NOVA. Read Matt’s story  and follow his journey around the world! This is a manifest for radio imaging! (more…)

A few weeks ago, our VO talent Harry sent me some great stuff from an Ozzi newcomer and I was really digging it, so I finally connected with him and interviewed him for you guys. Dom is based in Melbourne and with his 23 years he’s one of the upcoming talents in Australia’s imaging scene.

Hear some great Ozzi style imaging, learn what plugIns rock down under and how much a great recruiting and training system can make a difference! Enter Dom Evans! (more…)

I really love working with young and aspiring imaging talents. It’s a great thing to see how young people develop, get inspired and one day are better than the guy educated them. Benztown’s philosopy was always to educate, share knowledge and grow together. I often use Mr. Miyagi as the perfect role model and Australia has a lot of them. BT, David Konsky, Matt Nikolic, Chris Davis, Sidey  – just to name a few.

Triple M‘s Brendan Tacey has developed a great recruitment system, which gets youngsters into the scene and helps established producers extend their work and talent.

Check out how Ozzi Imaging Veteran BT is using his networking skills and talent for scouting new talents and aside develops the new Ozzi imaging elite. Enter BT (Head of Imaging for Southern Cross / Austereo) (more…)

It’s January and most of us guys are freezing like hell. On the other side of the world, people are facing a devastating natural disaster. Thousands of people in Australia are impacted by bushfires and many lost their homes.

Leigh Ratcliffe from LAFM sent us a link to his bushfire imaging on Daryl Missen’s Australia based imaging blog. His station is working together with the Australian Red Cross Bushfire Appeal to help the people who lost everything in the flames (check it here).

Thanks for sharing, Leigh and good luck to the guys at LAFM and all the helpers. Our thoughts are with our friends over in Australia and everyone struggling with this desaster.

This blog has become a platform for young and aspiring imaging talents and we’re proud to introduce you to Australia’s rising imaging star Dan Hunt. Some of you might know his dad, who was or still is one of the most recognized Imaging guys in Australia. Anyhow, I heard some of Dan’s works and thought I give him a shot and ask how he can create those great work at the age of 21!
Check it out, enjoy the screen caps and OZ rocks baby! (more…)
